Just an update...I again used and benefited greatly from the door card removal instructions above. Grateful for MVS and all the knowledge and resources here.
The driver's side door latch bushings failed so I replaced them... Got to use my 'reach-all' grabber. I don't get to use that very often. I'm glad I had it to retrieve the metal rod that pushes the latch.

New bushings installed, and rod swiveled back into position, ready to go back to work:
