Re: any way to disable the factory alarm ?
I have a 98 s70 2.4L Turbo that turn over but will not start; I don't have any entry remotes and I think it is the alarm system. I not getting fuel to the rail nor am I getting power to fuses 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the engine cabin unless I jump the main relay - then all of those fuses receive 12v and the fuel pump activates and the car starts - but the tranny throws dash lights. Do I have an ECU problem, main relay problem, or an alarm reset problem?.

The '98 alarm uses a starter cut.
And if the alarm was tripped,
you'd be flashing and honking.
My first move would be to look at the
ignition switch before anything else.

Thanks, I have one on order will be here next week
Bump !
I recently had to uninstall my Volvo Guard Alarm I (yes, "version One" : this came with grey remotes, triangular box on windscreen pillar trim, only on few European markets) on my '96 850R. So I bought a "Starter circuit plug" (built-in 50E and 50F relay).
But I also took advantage that my mechanic uninstalled the alarm (I was frightened the siren could sound and I couldn't stop it) and installed an aftermarket keyless system.
The problem is dome lights don't work anymore when I open the car using remote, neither when I then open the door with handle.
Dome lights works when I push the button next central mirror. Foot lights works when I open the door.
Do dome lights don't work because I uninstalled 210-211 relay, please ? Or is the aftermarket keyless system responsible, please?
I know I can uninstall aftermarket keyless to see what happens, but all wires are weld now...
Thank you all in anticipation!
Hello,jimmy57 wrote:98-2000 s70/v70/xc70 and 98-2004 c70 use Denso made alarm using a control module that is to left and up under dash, almost behind headlight switch.
Pin B21 of alarm module grounds starter relay 2/35. Relay 2/35 contact closing coil is powered by ignition switch starter terminal.
If the alarm module doesn't provide the ground to start relay then the relay doesn't provide feed to starter solenoid and no cranking results.
Usually locking the car and then unlocking it should reset the alarm. The alarm module is also the door lock, fuel cap unlock, trunk lid latch, and interior light module.
Fuses 2, 13, and 18 are all feeds to the alarm/lock/light module. Those are the fuses in the box just in front of windshield on driver's side cowl.

Bonjour, JeanPete.
That is strange. You know the dome lights work since they work with the switch.
My guess is you are missing an input from the alarm relay to the done lights or it might not even have this function.
It might be better to leave it this way, and touching the switch when you enter, than trying to rewire the car.

Hello abscate,
Thank you very much for your answer. Luckily, a member on a French forum have a 850R with same VGAI, which is out of order. So his Volvo mechanic installed a 50E-50F relay. I'm waiting for his answer about domelight.
But I also found that the yellow-white wire (Door trigger) is half cut. Unfortunately, it is so high behind the dashboard I can't repair it. My mech will do that. And I'll come back to post.

Spliced a wire into this B21 wire, grounded it, and was able to start the car with the alarm going off. Thank Jimmy, you are the hero of the day.jimmy57 wrote:Pin B21 of alarm module grounds starter relay 2/35. Relay 2/35 contact closing coil is powered by ignition switch starter terminal.

The alarm continued to go off for 5 minutes. Then all was silent until a door was opened, then it all started again.
Not sure yet what the problem is. My guess is that the drivers door latch is bad. Tomorrow I'm going to get a use door latch and an alarm control unit. The car is a '98. I'm guessing that the programming is for the key fob. I'll find out soon and post back.

Based on the year you mentioned getting a used "alarm control unit" is not a good idea if the car is a X70 series. Behaviour of the alarm system is correct btw, be happy that it doesn't the second siren installed to annoy you even more.rspi wrote: [...]Tomorrow I'm going to get a use door latch and an alarm control unit. Old post but worthwhile info.rspi wrote:...Spliced a wire into this B21 wire, grounded it, and was able to start the car with the alarm going off. Thank Jimmy, you are the hero of the day.

@rspi: no need to splice B-21, all you have to do is to run a ground jumper wire from an adjacent relay socket's ground pin to feed Starter Relay with ground. This basically bypasses the Alarm Module.
@jimmy57: for those who don't care about the alarm system, can they simply remove the fuse feeding the alarm system to "shut its mouth", and of course do the jumper wire as mentioned above. This way the car functions like cars that came from the factory with no alarm?
