A couple of years ago I paid $1000.00 for my '99 XC that was similarly situated. It did have a new, as in under 500 miles new, set of top of the line Firestone tires on it and the interior and exterior was well above average.
After I got it home and yanked the head I found that the engine was destroyed, three of the pistons were broken and the cylinder walls were chewed up. I took me nearly a year to find an engine for it and it wound up costing much more than I anticipated to get it running again. That was my mistake for not pulling the spark plugs and looking closer and the seller did a very good job of playing dumb. I must have some kind of genetic disorder, I can't bring myself to sell a car without disclosing everything that I know is wrong with it but, if you can do it, playing dumb will likely help you get more money out of it.
Just put up an ad on Craigslist and have a clean title ready. Remember that Craigslist buyers don't have my honesty problem and every crook in the area will come out of the woodwork. The deal will have to be As Is Where Is, Cash Only, No Games.

Thanks for the tip friend, but I'm afraid I'm quite a bit like you. My integrity is worth far more than a few hundred bucks. I'd love to save the money, but not at someone else's expense.
I appreciate your solid point. Helps put things in perspective.
