I broke down and call today; why not sure. As of today I talked with the service manager and he told me that the repair tech went home sick yesterday and was not in today. I said my cars been there a month now. No response from him. I said in can you put in writing a summary of what has been done and a plan of evaluation. He emailed me this see attachment. Really I'm not making this up. What do you guys think?

Well,

The dealer basically told you to keep the loaner. So keep the loaner, tell them to keep your car forever haha.

OK, back to business, I think the last time they did the timing belt, they might have replaced only the TB w/o replacing the 2 pulleys, then one of them failed (the tensioner pulley) causing this whole saga.
Or they didn't address the WP, which is made by Aisin. The WP lasts about 180K, after that it is a gamble.

As OP said early in the thread, the crank pulley slipped on the crank.
Do these use a woodruff key, or are they bonded/press fit? If the crank "jumped time" that should be a root cause-analysis done! I don't know what warranty coverage would be.

Maybe they want you to get used to the XC60 so they can scrap your car and sell you your new one.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Op said crankshaft slipped, pulley wasn't mentioned. It may have slipped against the belt because of a tensioner or idler failure or because of water pump seizure. Way too many variables here.......

They run a multi splined pulley; no keyway. Slippage on the crank pulley is almost impossible unless severe corrosion has set in.

Is it possible to have installed this pulley wrong? Would they have had to removed this pulley to install the crank seal?

If the water pumped had seized would there have been any symptoms before it's failure.

Two issues here:

- No offence to the O.P., but he does not know much about car terminology, so he relies on what the dealer says: slipping pulley blah blah blah.

- The dealer is hiding something.

This is not a good combo.

My guess is the tensioner pulley issue, very very common issue.

2006 XC90 - 198000 miles trade-in value is close to $2500.
Make a deal on 2015 XC90 - $0 down + loyalty + no first month payment + take off $2500 of MSRP, and come out ahead.

Cut out grief, enjoy life with loved ones this holiday.

Isn't that like a near 60K car? I love my old Volvos but you couldn't give me a new one. They've lost their way while moving "upmarket" (I hate that term).
