Cool, I'll let you know if I need anything!obayha wrote:Looks like some fun time with the front end work. Mine could probably benefit from some of that stuff.
The 06 got the treatment this weekend. Hit the 120,000 mark, so a few things needed done.
@bmdubya1198.. Can offer a little help at times if you need it. Live in Salisbury, but work in Charlotte way to many days. Have a '98 parts car that has a few items still on it.

Haven't been on here in a while, too busy driving. But as it happens a bit too much for the tranny.. :*(
Here's a glory pic from weekend before last. 4 people, 3 boats, 2 dogs, 1 (soon to be dead-transmission) volvo driving in some steep a$$ hills in arkansas
it was this weekend that the cruise control stopped working oddly..
the next weekend was cruising down I-40 at about 73 when it dropped out of gear it seemed...hmmm. loped it down the road a few miles on the shoulder and had it towed home. Sad day for the silver bullet. Let me know what you guys think!
Transmission fluid does not leak but is pretty dark and smells like burnt plastic kinda
it should be noted that I've been driving with whichever one of those is about the PNP switch for quite some time....
pulled six codes:
P0705
P0734
P0740
P0733
P0410
P0456
242,something miles. nice front end! any takers??
just kidding. kind of. am I better off starting fresh?

Put each code into google and let's see what they mean.

705 is range sensor, P0734 is out of ratio code, but that could be a solenoid problem... or something worse, since the fluid is dark and smelly. P0740 seems to back up the solenoid possibility, while P0733 is basically the same as 734. P0410 seems to be an issue with your SAS? And P0456 could be a clogged evap valve or a leak, I suppose?

Ok, so here are the codes (arranged numerically)
P0410 - Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction
P0456 - Evaporative Emissions System - Small leak detected
P0705 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL input)
P0733 - Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio
P0734 - Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio
P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction
The last 3 codes are the ones that worry me. However I have been driving with the P0705 for a really long time because I'm lazy... I think I am going to try the PNP switch I pulled from the junkyard a while back and see if it clears that code, then drive it and see what happens. Because it literally felt like I dropped into neutral while at highway speeds. I then pulled over and found that it would kinda go.. then rev real high. a couple times I almost red lined it on accident while feeling it out. Would only go about 30-35 on the down slopes.
Do you guys think there is any chance my tranny switch thing is so worn out that it just can't stay in gear? (this might be the denial stage)
Just backed it into the driveway, will update once I get the switch put on.

Yeah, like I said.
Trying the PNP switch you already have certainly isn't a bad idea, but the 733 and 734 are worrying still. I think you may have a bad torque converter clutch solenoid, at the very least.

You were stuck in 1st gear. The same thing happened to me. You need to get the PNP situation sorted out. If you have a junkyard PNP take it apart and clean it before putting it on. And when you do put it on make sure you align it correctly. Make sure your fluid is also in good condition.henmill wrote: I then pulled over and found that it would kinda go.. then rev real high. a couple times I almost red lined it on accident while feeling it out. If you have bad solenoids its not the end of the world. I replaced both shift solenoids and the lock up solenoid and you can read about that adventure here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=65527
