A few days ago I repaired the broken part. I drilled a 2,5 mm hole at the place where the broken pin was, cut a 3 mm thread into the hole. Then I inserted a piece of a a screw without head and fastened it with epoxy glue. Some white grease on the moving and sliding parts and works as before. Then I practiced opening it with the credit card strip. Worked fine. I also had purchased the repair kit but will keep it in case my repair brakes down. The original part had lasted 25 years, will see whether my repair will last longer .....

Very creative and well done sorting it. Even smarter having a back up plan of new part and way to open the glovebox should the repair fail again.

Cut a 2 cm strip of a credit card or similar, bend one end, then introduce it into the slit between lid and box at a distance of 22 - 22,5 cm from the left end of the lid. After a few attempts it worked for me like shown on the video. You have to pry the strip really deep so it goes in between the hook and the bracket. Once it slips into the correct place, the lid opens immediately. You can then see then how the strip is stuck in the lid-locking mechanism

Of course you can't keep the plastic strip in the glove box...
Console box, might get tossed out.
Maybe duct tape it on the bottom of the glove box/dash area.
