Looks like the roll-over valve is NLA? - Is there and option other than used? Part # 1255422 says it has been expired.

I have a '98 LPT relegated to parts car status. Haven't had to harvest that part yet. I'll look under it Monday, after the temp gets below 95.

If any of your cars uses this part I would harvest it and keep in 'just in case'! :D

That is after I swap the winter to summer tires, check all the suspension and brake system, fix the broken LHF inner door handle, check if the plugs and ignition parts need swapped yet and go through all the receipts for the last 8 years that were kept to try to get the car on a planned maintenance schedule with as close to a stage 0 as possible.

Well, now you just sound like a crybaby. ;-)

I'm in the same situation with my T5, but you don't hear me whining and asking for sympathy (or do you)? ;-)

Ah yes, but that is YOUR car! I am working on a friends car! Can't complain too much as I did offer.

Anyway I have so far checked the front end and half of the rear (RHR). Man that roll over valve was hard to find/see hidden behind the fuel filter. Even getting into try to see any of it was hard. Will be so much easier with a hoist! One day.........!

The car is in amazing condition underneath as it has had an additional thick coat of undercoat protection. It is like new!

The pipes to the roll over valve are hard to assess as they have also been covered in bitumen coating but they don't look bad from what I can see. I am thinking the only way to sort the emissions leak is going to be a smoke test.

Thanks for all the help on this. Now to see if I can persuade the dealer friends to do a favor on the smoke and diagnostic.

The smoke test was what finally found my leak in an area I had already visually checked. I built one out of a pickle jar and a soldering iron as shown on YouTube, but I think I've told that story before. Worked like a charm. Today, the torsion springs on my garage door both failed. Fortunately, I have a side door. Now waiting for springs to arrive.

What about the J hose. It can also throwsa P0442. My 3 1998/99s have needed replacements. The cracks are not visible until you remove the hose. Then you will see multiple cracks running lengthwise, each about an inch long. Last one I did had at least 3 if not 5 cracks. Here is a reference on MVS for J hose repair. There are probably others.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! Unfortunately this 98 has the carbon filter under the LF fender just forward of the wheel. Nicely hidden so you need to pull the fender liner to get decent access.

The pipes are different and they looked fairly recent and I have now received the history for the last 8 years when the car was pulled out of a garage after a 10 year lay up and 44,000km on it. A Volvo specialist in town went through the car and this emissions issue has come up several times with several different attempts to fix it unsuccessfully. I have now inherited the issue as I am now looking after the car and advising the owner on repairs.

All the rubber hoses at the front of the car have been replaced including the carbon canister and the valves cleaned and tested, I even swapped out one with a used one but no difference.

As the remainder of the system is at the back of the car it is hard to access with the fuel filter in place the roll-over valve is tucked up behind it.

I could spent hours going around the issue as have others, but to me it is worth spending a couple of hundred dollars to have the system smoked to see if there is a leak possibly above the fuel tank.

Again, thanks for the help!
