maybe pull the dipstick up for now? good to relieve pressure instead of blowing a cam seal or other place

Thanks for the idea, Mika!

I tested the PCV system and after some discussion with VOLVO mechanics: it's minor blockage; no excess pressure building up at idling or higher rev's (checked at oil filler tube and the dipstick). Also, no any oil leak around the oil filler tube.

Rather than higher mileage 'disease': the piston rings getting go be worn, so some exhaust gases leaks into the crankcase vent system, can't be sucked fully by the PCV system.

Have a relaxing Swedish weekend! :-) 8)

New PCV on turbo engine made by Volvo develops a lot of vacuum in crankcase. I bet your PCV is clogged.

EDIT: battery had 12.2V this morning (before firing, staying for an overnight at 5°C / 41°F) and constant 14.1V measured while the engine was idling around 1000 rev (cold engine). Seems to me OK.

EDIT2: charging of the fully warmed up engine at idling by 14.0V - measured at the battery terminals, a/c was on.
Worn brushes on voltage regulator result in alternator incapable of charging battery at lower engine revs. So if you see voltage warning while engine is idling and don't see it when cruising on highway, that's probably regulator.

Other possibility is faulty electronics draining battery badly. Wife's 2002 V70 had recently a problem with siren module, car threw low voltage error, even it had new alternator and high capacity AGM battery installed 3 years ago. Ended up like that: http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthrea ... went-south

Oh, yes, all siren modules will fail like that because of its design and mounting position (leak-prone NiMH battery sits above circuit board).

Thanks for the comments, vtl!

I saw your battery/siren improvement - looks like a reasonable preventive maintenance item! I like this type of DIY care as well.

Today wrapped the electrical wires (ignition coil and injector) - took only 1 buck. :-)

We made some fun with my son: checking of disconnected headlight wipers;
- the good news: washers works fine, but the water pressure is not so high
- the connected wiper motors inoperative - sorry to say, but useless design for me. Disconnected again...

Some minor improvements of today:
- opened up the old fuel filter (OEM VOLVO): very strong metal house and filter material; no any particles found
- painted the set of steel rims for the winter tyres (used ones with VOLVO hubcaps; it was a bargain)

Some photos:
