Whining Noise

Oil cooler thermostat... interesting. I've had mine off quite a few times, and I really didn't notice it before I took it off the first time.

Did anything come out of this?
since a short time I have exactly the same whine that bmdubya1198 describes.
and it definetely also comes from the powersteering pump or that neighbourhood.
I read of more people having it. Even after replacing pump and tensioner/roller.

I never touched the oil cooler.. And that is situated lower right?

The oil cooler thermostat is located under the harmonic balancer. A little box with the two oil cooler lines going into it.
I actually removed my serpentine belt a couple weeks ago and started it cold to see if the noise was still there, and sure enough, it was. That's pretty much all the reassurance I needed to tell it's the thermostat making that noise.
