My uncle calls it Horror Fright. He's a recovering HF coupon addict. He went through a phase worse than me when he was going there 2-3 times a day... then the free coupons slowed down. It's definitely his fault that there are only regularly two free items now!

Nice work! This job is coming along well for being so cold up there.

As I see it, the used head probably is the quickest and easiest way to finish this job.

Clearwater comes with all the valve grinding, new valve guides, seals, etc. Give them a call, they are very easy to deal with. Got the last one for the Jetta from them...
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

I've never seen clear indication of where Clearwater gets the valve stem seals. And we know they are bunk from many (most?) suppliers ...

What Clemens said - I would look for a used head. Oh and still do the valves, valve stem seals on it. Basically look for one to pull or find one already pulled by someone you can trust to not have cooked it. This engine is already apart so the engine swap doesn't give you the labor/headache savings it normally would, and you'll have to go through the logistics of finding the engine which is more trouble than finding a head. And going with a used (and then refurbished) head the top end is so squeaky clean when you are done.

Brutal luck on this one, I imagine the rest of the car is in good enough shape to justify the work?

Build a fixture to bolt the head down and put it in a bbq oven. 500F for a few hours. It straightens the head down to < 0.012" which my machine shop says is max possible to shave off. Little bit of a project but once done you're in business. All it's gonna cost is $20 to refill the gas bottle👍

I’ve got deep brinnelling andvalve issues too, so I think one has shuffled off its single mortal coil.
