Hi All,
My mechanic is selling an '09 XC70 T6 (3.0L) with 156K miles. It's in great shape and rides well. I DID notice a "whine" that sounds like it's coming from the drivetrain. He said it's most likely the differential and shouldn't be an issue. I've heard that others have heard this same sound with this many miles and it's not unusual. I wanted to get an opinion on whether I should proceed with the purchase.....I'm looking to get a good 2-3 years out of the vehicle.
Thanks in advance!

The I6 is I believe the 3.2l that is used in Volvos, Fords and some Land Rovers. Its pretty solid. Unless Volvo has done some upgrades from their P2 and earlier platform, I am not a fan of their AWD systems. They have a failure point at the collar between the angle gear and transmission that has a high failure rate especially on high mileage volvos. If you are planning to do any towing, I'd say the propensity is even greater.
