2000 S80 2.0T Transmission issues

Hi Guys,

An update to the continuing saga of my fight to repair my S80's tranny. The fault code in the tranny was TCM-002A or P0733 (3rd gear incorrect ratio). I checked the description in Vadis.

The car is currently at the stealership here in Fiji. They have taken the sump off.. The day I took the car to the shop (drove it really slowly), when I started the engine in the morning I could hear a loud whirring sound from the tranny. This went away once the engine heated up. I did notice that this started happening after I changed the oil with the Toyota T4 (replacement for Mobil 3309). Would greatly appreciate if someone can help me out with the following questions.

1: Does the whirring sound on cold start have anything to do with what's wrong (Torque Converter or anything else)? Can someone confirm the validity of Toyota T4 being JWS3309 compliant?
2: How do we check the solenoids and line pressure? The mechanics are currently faffling around and giving me crappy reasons to replace the tranny.
3: Worst case scenario, Does anyone know of a good place who can rebuild the ASIN AW55-50/51SN transmission?

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

We took out the control unit from the gearbox and found that the S4 solenoid is not working. I'm in the process of ordering the solenoid from MyVolvoPartsOnline.com..
One question though, If the solenoid swap doesn't work and I get a used gearbox, is replacing the gearbox a straight swap or do I have to check for something before I buy one?
