Hi,
An update on my ongoing transmission woes which started Jan 2010.. The car has been immobile since then. I had given it to the local Volvo dealers and they said the S4 solenoid was not working and stuck in open position. Long story short, I got a new solenoid and had it fitted but no go. The car refuses to get into drive.. Also now I can hear a whining sound coming from the tranny.
The mechanic here suggests I get the tranny replaced or rebuilt. I need a few pointers on this?
1) How much does a new AW55-50SN tranny cost?
2) Is rebuilding it with new clutch packs any good?
3) I have located a used tranny from a soon to be wrecked S80 in NZ but from a different model (2.4 Non turbo). Can I use it?
In your opinion which road should I take or shall I just cut my losses and get rid of this car? Your opnion and help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers...

Hey friend, a new tranny maybe is over US$3000.00, but you can repair for less than US$1500.00 if you change your solenoids and clutch packs, you dont have to be afraid for new problems..
The auto trans on the s80 turbo is not the same as the NA, due the solenoid packs are stronger on turbo engines. If you find a s80 turbo trans with low miles you can buy it ..
