Large PCV Hose Broke-off
The large right plastic hose that connects to the top nipple on the air intake hose broke-off while I was trying to remove the latter in order to clean it. The nipples are clean, so I'm assuming that the PCV system that is clogged. Smoke still comes out of the dipstick tube when the engine is running. I plan to replace the PCV breathing system kit within the next 2 to 3 weeks. My commute to work is 20 miles R/T daily. Is there danger in my driving the car temporarily w/ the large hose broke-off, just until I got the parts to replace the PCV breathing system kit?

It may make an oil mess where the oil mist and crankcase gases dump out that broken tube. Mine broke like that, so I spliced on a piece of clear vinyl tube, secured tight with a couple clamps. It's been fine for a more than a year now. You could do something similar, but leave a loose end of the hose hanging down to the bottom of the engine compartment.
Just fixing the tube won't fix the PCV system problems, though, so plan on addressing that ASAP.

Make sure you use something that is heat resistant.. then you might even be dealing with a lil fire in your engine compartment!

My mother always told me: "Don't put off till tomorrow what can be done today". For variety she would say: "There's no time like the present". She didn't know a thing about Volvos, but she was very wise. I would follow my mother's advice.
Call up FCP, mention MVS for the discount, order the kit. When it arrives, put on your blue gloves and fix that puppy.

It can be repaired TEMPORALLY with a heat resistant hose (to avoid fire risk). No problems to drive the car just a weeks.
Call FCP Groton. its a cheap part..just tricky to replace, but just needed patience and hand tools.

If you can still reach where it broke off at, cut back the rubber sheath and just get some high-heat tape.

Renns - I'm assuming that your PCV system isn't clogged b/c you've been running the car for over a year. I drove my car yesterday, and the open/broken hose line isn't spewing out oil. I guess it's just dumping crankcase gas out into the air. Based on this, my PCV or oil separator box is clogged that is why the broken hose isn't spewing out oil mist?

If air comes out the oil filler or dipstick tube, but not out that plastic tube, then your PCV system is plugged. That oil separator box breaths through a small passage in the block, which often gets clogged. I cleaned that passage well when I had the oil pan off for o-ring replacement several months ago.
