Hi all-
I am new to this forum and the new owner of a 2001 S-80 T-6 with 104,500 miles on it. I have put approximately 500 miles on it in my 2-week ownership. These are the issues that I'm faced with and would appreciate some advice as how to address these challenges.
When purchased - on the message board a warning message states " SRS Airbag Service Urgent with the airbag warning light on". When I come to a stop about 20% of the time it feels like the transmission sometimes doesn't properly shift completely into 1st and when I step on the gas it feels like it's in between 1st and 2nd then jerks into 1st gear. Next...About 1 week ago- the "Check Engine" light went on. Then...Two days ago while driving, out of nowhere while on the freeway in stop and go traffic-the transmission started to shift in a really lethargic manor...each shift had a really bizarre feel to it, and on the message board a warning message stated "Transmission Service Urgent" with a (triangle ! light on in the middle of the dash). My wife and I have been the very happy and fortunate owners of a 93 850 that just saved our tails in a 30 MPH crash from behind when we were dead stopped. It had very little damage (compared to the 2004 Honda Odyssey that was totaled). I bought the S80 as an upgrade in Luxury and performance. We love the feel of this superb car but...for the love of God...it looks I'm going to have my hands full keeping this car on the road! Again...any advice of what I can to do is MUCH appreciated!!!
Thanking you all in advance!
Ted
S-80 Transmission Service URGENT! message
A Volvo mechanic told me once that there are several things that can cause transmission service urgent message to apear. I would get the codes pulled to see what they say. First thing I would think is the shift solenoid may have a problem. Have you shifted it manually, if so how does it act then. The mechanic told that when the tranny is going out that you will think the car is going to jump out of the road.
I want it due to the shear inability to continue life without it!!

That message is displayed for a range of different transmission faults. Some serious and some not too serious. No way to help without the codes being read from vehicle. Things that makes CHECK ENGINE light come on can be read off by a standardized scan tool at most of the auto parts national chain stores. Transmission codes will have to be read by dealer or a shop with specialized Volvo capable scan tools.
Well... the transmission service light went off when I replaced the battery about a month ago. The check engine light went off too but came back on a couple of weeks ago. But just yesterday... I started the car in the morning and their was a noticeable miss while running throughout the rpm range. At times the Check Engine light was flashing from time to time also, soooo...I just went to Harbor Freight and bought a Scan Tool to try and figure out what the heck is really going on. Since I have never used a scan tool before, I am going to read the manual from cover to cover before pulling the codes. I will share the codes that I pull and go from there. Thank you for your posts regarding my challenges! Ted
