I bought the car and the previous owner said the heater core leaked so he took it out and bypassed the heater by connecting the 2 heater hoses together. I immediately replace the heater core, new heater hoses and radiator flush. After the work was done, I had no leaks inside, but I had a leak at the heater hose that goes into the side of the engine block under the distributor. I thought I had it fixed.
6 months later, I finished replacing all the other coolant hoses, water pump and timing belt. I noticed I was still losing coolant and it is coming from that same heater hose connection. I also just noticed that my carpet is wet again. I am not sure if the heater hose connector at the engine block can become blocked. It looks like it is a hose barb connector that threads into the engine block.
Any help would be great. I am also not sure how my heater core started leaking again, unless it has just built so much backpressure through the heater core and it had to go somewhere. Can I unscrew that connection from the engine block?
Thank You!

Is it leaking at the heater core itself or the junction/O-rings?
What brand heater core did you use?
I've never had anything clog up but the inside of a radiator - those hoses are big enough that there shouldn't be any restriction in flow that should be able to build up.

I installed a new firewall junction bought from the local volvo dealer, 2 new heater hoses, all necessary O rings and a OEM heater core from FCP Groton.
I haven't pulled the carpet back yet to find out the exact location of the leak. (ie. heater bottom or firewall.)
I am planning to look at the interior further this weekend.
My main concern is the connection at the engine block and I wanted to get some feedback on that issue before I started tearing into it this weekend. Thanks again
