Hey guys, anyone recommend somewhere I can find a rebuild kit for the 99 xc70 rear girling caliper?

Call Mike Rivera at FCP and ask for the "German ones" vs the Chinese ones

Use www.centricparts.com to locate the part number for a centric rebuilt one. Then buy online with Matts Amazon link.

If its not a common stock part then its probably too much effort to find. Having a properly rebuilt one eliminates all the possible issues . Always a good time to put a new flex line in as well.

JDS60R Thanks for ur advice, I have all new braided hoses but need to rebuild this caliper. Previous driver ran it on a warped rotor too long.

cn90 are the brakes on the rear of ur 98 Girling? if so this maybe a good cheap root. I had ur thread saved for when I did the job, sorry didn't get too the updates.
Did you end up buying the parts mentioned in the post on jan 26, 2014?

I believe the Rear Brake in the 850, S/V70, XC70 is made by ATE.
Girling is for 240, 740 series. I may be wrong though. I used to have a 1991 Volvo 240 and the front was Girling, rear was ATE (if I remember correctly...).

Anyway, go to local OReilly auto parts and buy the repair kit for $5-$10. I guess you have nothing to lose b/c the price is so cheap anyway.

When I 1st got the car I replaced a hose and all the pads, the calipers at the back are def Girling whether they are meant to be or not.

Not sure I'm ready to risk if a universal seal kit from OReilys fits. Probably rather just get another caliper if its that hard to get the correct seal kit.

I find it strange though that such a necessary thing is so hard but I'm pretty new to Volvos.
If I take off a caliper would I expect to find a helpful part number in this case?

One of the biggest problems with rear caliper in my 1998 S70 is the nut (where the metal line is attached to the rear caliper) is seized to the caliper for good. The XC70 setup is probably different with rubber hose attached to the REAR caliper.
Many people, incl. myself, rounded off this nut and therefore could not swap in another rear caliper.
See my thread above and you will know why I rebuilt the rear caliper "in situ".

So, you may want to search the internet for the appropriate REAR caliper rebuild kit for your 1999 XC.

The rear 98 and early 99 AWD calipers are Girling because they are the exact same brakes the RWD cars used. Even some of the rear suspension of the AWD cars is shared with the later model IRS RWD cars.

Late 99 and 2000 AWD XC cars used an ATE caliper with a thicker and slightly larger rotor. 2000 V70R models used that same caliper, but with a vented rear rotor.
