96 850 Turbo Wagon - Smoke at Idle
Less than a year ago my turbo was replaced with an OEM Volvo turbo. Everything was fine until about four or five months ago. I starting getting smoke (oil) out the pipe, mostly when the car is stopped and at idle. My mechanic, who I trust based on great work on my three Volvos over time, has done several minor tweaks and the smoking has decreased, but not gone away. I am burning a half to a quart of oil every 3,000 miles and gas mileage is ok, but not as good as it should be. The car runs strong and there are no leaks. Ok wizards, what is going on and what needs to be done?

Many on another site have posted that the oil fill cap goes bad...even with a new gasket...new replacements are available from the dealer and not expensive. The old type tends to leak oil out of the cap which runs out under the plug cover and the back of the engine...when hot all of this smokes. Take the plug cover off and see if there is oil sitting under it.

I think you are correct about the oil filler cap. I will replace it right away. Thanks for the good advice.
