2003 V70 Window switch repair

Has anyone ever dissected a window switch in order to restore contact within? There is one dead function on the front RH passenger window. I think of it as having four functions - momentary up / full up / momentary down / full down. All functions work except for the momentary up position. All other windows in the car work properly. I haven't taken the door panel off yet, but was just wondering if an internal contact cleaning is even possible.

These swiitches are actually modules with circuit boards.

The contacts are not carrying high current so cleaning the contacts of the press switches will be of little value.

Once you open the module there are two boards joined by a ribbon cable. Sometimes ribbon cables suffer from corrosion so it may work to release the ribbon cable on both ends and reseat it.

Do you have a Vida setup? If so there may be a code relating to the switch you can read.

I saw one in the local PnP today that was a few years older (different P/N) . You're right, it's a big "module' that also houses the door lock button. It sounds like repairing one may be a stretch. New = $300+. Ouch. May find it at one of the good Volvo recyclers for about half that.

Nope, no Vida-Dice setup around this joint.

My motto is: It's always worth a try, what do you got to lose? I successfully repaired 2. I first went to the junkyard and bought one, but another door window didn't work. Carefully took it apart and sprayed contact cleaner on them. Now both of them are fine so I have a spare. One more thing, I didn't have to take the panel apart to remove the switch. Just the bezel around it. Mine is a 2000 V70R though.

Aren't the '03 and up more electronic in nature? I know the 98 took well to a cleaning but I thought this didn't work so well on the '02 and up.

There's a bunch on ebay in the $50 or so range. Compared to $300.00 I'd give the a shot I search with "2003 Volvo V70 window switch"

You may ger lucky with a match on eBay. Software installed may be different; there's no telling until you try it.

I just put an '01 in an '02 (driver's side XC70) & it didn't work so I had my electronic online saviour Henry (doublebug) reprogram it for me over the internet.

Henry says the '03 and up are more reliable and quicker to program but are all interchangable once the software is dealt with.

Do try the internal ribbon cable before you buy one though. Pry the covers off and you'll see what I mean.

I kinda have that "what's there to lose" attitude also. I'll take a close look at it. Too bad Xemodex doesn't include window switches in their list of components that they can fix.

BTW - I have a confession to make. The ailing car is actually the wife's 2005 S80. I posted the problem on this forum because it gets a lot more traffic - a lot of which is quite knowledgeable.
