1998 V90 Best way to replace voltage regulator?

Post by martin calva »

I want to replace the voltage regulator on my V90 (Low voltage when engine running + battery is never more than 50% charged even after a long run).

The alternator is well hidden below the steering pump and it's not obvious to me that the regulator can be replaced while the alternator is in its place. What is the best way to replace the alternator's voltage regulator:

[A] Do it with the alternator in place, removing some of the piping that makes its rear inaccessible?

Remove the auxiliary belt, then the alternator and replace the regulator with the alternator out of the car?

Thank you for any advice - Martin.

On the bench, and while there, one can test bearings via spinning alternator via hand. If bearings sound "dry," then replace them, or buy a rebuilt
