1998 V70XC Driveshaft CV Replacement Parts

Post by Ludermilch »

Evening Y'all

Getting my favorite auto ready for winter driving by replacing the driveshaft. I removed it this past summer because the boot around the front CV is gone and was afraid to continue to use it.

Please check that my search for parts is correct.

Its a 98 V70XC with a VIN below #465400 and has the early style Viscus Clutch Assembly. 24 spines on the axle and CV . All my research points me to these two parts. Both say they work.

Can anyone confirm or point me to a supplier?
Thanks ALEX

Great find on that site, for some reason I couldn't find that one before. My CV boot is gone on the front of the driveshaft as well but it looks like this part could just be ordered if the CV joint is still good.

Stick to GKN Lobro parts.

Alternative is: leave the driveshaft out and drive the car as a FWD vehicle, saving gasoline.

After measuring my CV at 94mm OD with 24 splines, I have concluded that neither of the offerings at driveshaftparts will fit. I keep hitting a wall searching for GKN Lobro parts that will work also. Most of my findings point me to a part that is also used on the Saturn/Pontiac Sky/Solstice and Kia Sorento

All I really need is the boot. All is well with the CV with no major wear on the inner or outer race.

I must have the oddball XC. I don't want to get a Jeep.

Is it the original shaft or was it replaced already at some point?

I cannot tell if it is the original. The part # off the C/V is 7153100177006 LOBRO manufactured in 97 so it must be. All the LOBRO suppliers I can find seem to be in the UK. Found this http://www.ebay.com/itm/GKN-Standard-CV ... 9y&vxp=mtr

I bought the XC used in '14. Drove it for sometime with the driveshaft in. Removed it for the summer of '14 and reinstalled that winter for some snowy travel. It was spring when I discovered all the boot was gone. Wish to repair it for this winter so I can get about.

Did you try Colorado Driveshafts? I know they re-build the units, but at some point I was sure I saw them selling parts on ebay.com

Looking at the ebay page for them, they list the later 98 and 99-00 as having a 86MM OD and 20 Splines and a stub diameter of 22mm.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-AWD-or-V7 ... 1445378039

I measured mine and it has a stub diameter of 24mm and an OD of 94mm.

Called the driveshaftparts.com guys and they had one that is the right size, just not listed on the site, they are going to ship it out today so we'll see if it works.

The part they said I needed was CVJ 052 - Volvo AWD CV Joint

Ordered the CV boot from Colorado Drive Shaft that fits my 94mm CV Joint. It was a kit with the boot, grease, gasket, clamp, and C-clip. It has been placed on the drive shaft and now I am ready to install it on the car.
