V40 battery light and AC blows warm......

Post by olddaddy »

So a few weeks ago the battery light came on in the V40. Checked the battery and it seemed like maybe it was shorted or not taking no charge. Decided to replace with new, but light stays on. Voltage reads 12V with engine at idle and up to 13.5 with a slight increase in rpms. Car starts and runs fine, battery stays charged, but when the battery light is on the AC stops blowing cold air. The AC fan remains constant and on, but the air is warm. I figured I would go ahead and replace the alternator and belt to be safe, but that was before the odd AC behavior occurred. I am at a loss now. Any ideas?

When you turn the AC on and off does the car change RPM when at idle?

If not you may want to check voltage to your AC compressor clutch.
If you are getting no change in voltage to your AC compressor clutch, and you have checked your fuses,
then it could be the climate control module.

I had a bad one of these and other things were acting up on my car, I replaced it with a used one and then paid the
dealer for a software update around $50 for the module and $90 for the update.

Then the AC started working again, and the other issues were resolved.

Thanks for your reply. We replaced the alternator, compressor, expansion valve, and dryer. In the end after 16 years we figured it must need some attention. Everything is working for now, hope it continues.
