1990 740 brakes, etc.

Post by e777 »

I just purchased a '90 740 with 265,000 miles (still purrs like a kitten). I plan to change the front and rear brakes. In light of the car's high mileage, I was wondering if there are any other crucial parts that I should check and/or change in the wheel/axle area while I have the wheels off to do the brakes.

Check all wheel bearings before removing the road wheels and adjust if needed when the wheels are off.

Visual check of coil springs for breakage and shock absorbers for leaks all round.

On the front check for play/wear in the ball joints and track rod ends. Also check the anti-roll bar mounting rubbers for wear. Check the condition of the rubber bellows on the steering rack - no splits or leaks.
