Hi, everybody, i'm writing from uruguay in south america, i have a friend who has a 1996 Volvo 960 2.9, the car have the nimovat rear shocks. The original volvo dealer come out some years ago of my country and volvo return with another dealer, the new dealer is not interested on the old volvo's.
For buy parts i have to buy parts in the USA, buy the nivomat rears shocks are too expensive, and also i have to pay taxes to my country for the parts, if i buy a new nivomat rear shock for the 960, the final cost will be aproximated 1000 usd, For each, is to expensive... someone can help me to eliminate the nivomat system, or if someone know some store or brand where the cost of the nivomat be inferior to 200 usd, i will be exonerated the taxes in my country
Many thanks

I eliminated nivomats on 1995 960 wagon. I got a used spring from a 960 w/o nivomats and then used the normal shocks that are far less expensive.
The leaf spring is much weaker with nivomats and just replacing he shocks with regular ones will leave you with a car that sets very low in the rear if any passengers or any load is added to rear of car.

mm not have who made it here, in brazil maybe can make one system, but are too expensive and Poor qualitylummert wrote:The rear leaf spring is mounted transversely. The Toyota Previa swap is for the shock absorbers. Air shock kit, anyone?
If someone has the measures of the coil spring, i can made it here, and buy normal shocks.
Looking in ebay and google, i see that the top of toyota previa shocks are diferent than the top of volvo 960, to fit the toyota shocks, have to made some part to fit it in the volvo?
