Steering Groan

Hey Guys.
Back to work on my wife's wagon. (Read: I like working on my 928, this is a chore...)

Anyway, cold snap in mid-west. New noise on cold start, groan associated with turning.
Most pronounced and small resistance at full turn, like when most pressure on the rack.
Does not seem related to speed/RPM.
Improves when run to hot.

Any known failures, wear items, or ideas before I jump in?
I've done nothing yet except check fluid level.
Thoughts appreciated.

Check and grease the lower steering column bushing which is against the firewall, they rust, then make the noise you suggest yours is doing!
The replacement part has no metal parts, it's not expensive and will probably solve your problem.
In the meantime, use some grease on it.

Also if you are not the first owner check that power steering reservoir filled with green OE or Pentosin fluid. Quite often people put there ATF, which ir wrong.

Pure gold gentlemen....worked like a charm.

Let's get you guys over in the 928 room...we'd still be having a debate on original design and disruption of air flow over the grease!!!
