96 850R Losing Oil

I had an oil change at the end of June and they put synthetic and said I should be good for 7,500 miles. The engine had about 203,500 at the time. Just brought it back to get checked out cause the engine was occasionally sputtering at start up, but it is hit or miss. They couldn't find anything, but said I needed an oil change as it was dark and is over 2 quarts low, but did not mention anything wrong with the engine. It was actually 3 quarts low! Should I bring it back or is this normal?

3 QUARTS LOW???
Top it up to the middle of the dipstick....if damage isn't allready done and hope for the best.

I would never understand WHY is it so hard for people to check oil level at least monthly?

What oil viscosity is in the engine?

My wife was driving her NA 4 quarts low before i heard the rods knock. The light never came on though. Btw., the NA survived, these fortunately have tough bottom ends as someone told me back then.

Also, switching to synth increases oil consumption on alot of high mileage vehicles
Check regularily!

Use whatever type of oil (synthetic/conventional/blend) you want, but keep the oil level checked and full.

You will have no one but yourself to blame if you run it out of oil and seize the engine.

Your engine probably needs a PCV service and a have its valve stem seals changed.

In Florida, you should be running 10w-40.
