V70 12V center console plug in question?

On the project car, I was surprised to find it is actually fitted with a cigarette lighter both at the shifter lever area, and in the rear of the console for rear seat passengers.

My question is this. Should these be illuminated when the dashboard lights are switched on? My 2000 'R' does not have the lighters, but has the sockets and they light up green, but neither in this car do.

If anyone out there has the cigarette lighter option, can you let me know if they socket should light up in green? I have looked at the outside edge and can't see any obvious signs of the green plastic to be illuminated, so now doubt if they should. Also, should the cigarette lighters light up all the time when the dash lights are on, or even when they are pressed down to heat them up?

The center console is relatively easy to remove again, and I can swap them out with the non-lighter sockets as I think I have spares. I don't smoke so loosing the lighters is no issue as far as I am concerned.

No lights at all either front or back on the 1999 - I must have confused it with the P2

Interesting. Just to confirm you have cigarette lighters in both locations? Do you know if the lighter portion or anything lights up when activated?
I still have to check that there is actually power to the outlets. Probably get to that later today once I've adjusted the hood latches.

All the front consoles that I have seen have a lighter socket. The socket is encased in a green plastic jacket. Next to the green plastic is a very small light bulb which creates the green glow. The socket has leads for 12v which I assume are hot all the time.

The rear ashtray assembly also is wired for 12v. It has the same lighter socket with green jacket. Plus it has a green plastic lens that presumably illuminates the ashtray when it is open.

Had a closer look in daylight and using a torch, I can see there I a green surround on both assemblies. Guess both should light up. Add that to the never ending list when I remove the console to swap the rear carpet out.

A nice and cheap way to re-illuminate the lighter sockets, is to use the same little $1.29 bulbs that go into the dash switches.

If you're removing the console, hot glue/reinforce the underside of the receptacle the lighter goes into. It's only 3 plastic pieces that hold it together and they break after a lot of usage. Then the lighter and socket fall down into the opening!
Easy to do when it's out of the car
