Volvo S70 - intermitent start problem Topic is solved

I just started having some problems with my 2000/S70. The engine would start, run for a couple of seconds, then shut off. This does not happen all the time. I was able to get it running by stepping on the gas after the engine starts up. Any suggestions on what to look for?

Fuel pump, clogged injectors, fuel filter. Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me.

Since the dealers in my area are all booked for two weeks for an appointment, I took my car to a shop specializing in Volvo to check out the problem. He was able to find a fault code eventually, but it happens to be one of those not published by Volvo, hence, he could not identify the source of the problem.

I tried the Volvo dealers again and got the same story. Their parking lot is full and cannot take any car in for repair. I finally found a dealer 30 miles away to recognize that this is not a "nice to have" maintenance, got the car in and found the fault between key antenna and computer. They replaced the key ring antenna ($300 for parts & labor), and so far, so good.

I was quite impressed by the built, design and performance of my S70 - 2000. However, I am definitely not impressed with the kind of service the dealers offer their customers. Telling me that their lot has over 70 cars and the next available appointment is two weeks did not impress me. I can only wonder why they have 70 cars in the lot: a) Recent volvo products are faulty, b) Dealers do have have the proper equipment or know-how to fix problems, or c) both.

Out of frustrations, I contacted Volvo North America, hoping that they could work something out with the dealers but I did not get too far. I explained to them that with the current support structure, i.e., incompetent dealers, and the records of having long queues of cars waiting for repairs, they should be concerned about their "Volvo for Life" campaign, and that they should stop telling their customers how important their customers are.

Does anyone know how I can contact the Volvo headquarters?

are you referring to the actual ignition key having an antenna malfunction to the computer?

Yes starxc. I believe they referred to it as "key ring antenna". My understanding is that it is in the ignition area where the signature of from the key is sent to the computer. I am disappointed that it went bad for a car that is only 4-5 years old. It has been behaving since that part was replaced.
