Brake lights problem

When headlights are turned off and brake pedal depressed brake lights work fine, except the bulb warning light comes on.
When headlights are turned on bulb warning light stays on and when brake pedal is depressed, right tail light goes off and left and center work fine. Whats up with that?

Here is my two-cents:

Replace the brake light bulbs (you may have an internal short or electrical leakage in one).

Clean the bulb holder and light socket contacts with steel wool.

Lubricate the contacts with silicone (dielectric) grease.

These things should eliminate the problem.

Agree with the above but also suggest you check all earth (ground) points on the rear lights.

From this I assume that is without pressing the brake pedal. If so it would appear you have a similar problem at the front.

On these cars it is not good policy to change only one of a pair of bulbs, as the difference between the old and new bulbs can upset the bulb failure system.
