Was wondering, since there is a but a single cabin temp sensor (behind the small grid), how does the system manage the dual temperature zones separately ?

Uses one temp for priority driver side and offsets from that for passenger side. That is why the single sensor 98-2004 P80 (c70 2001-2004) had a programming step to tell CCM RHD or LHD
