I recently purchased a 2006 V70 NA w/ 100k on it from original owner. I'm in the process of doing pcv. Next on the list is timing belt. Question: should I go with complete job (water pump, tensioner, idler) or just the belt. I know popular opinion is while you in there do it all, but I've heard these wp's are good for 200k. Opinions greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Glenn

Most people here will tell you to replace the TB, idler and tensioner pulley.
The WP can be replaced at 180K.

The water pumps generally do have a pretty long lifespan. I just replaced an original one on a car with 262k miles, clean, dry (no evidence of weep hole leak) & the bearing still felt great.
Very easy to do, find the nipple (protrudes off of a hard coolant line) on the rear of the engine, above the oil cooler & that will drain just enough coolant to allow you to replace the pump without a huge mess on the floor.
I use Zerex G-05 for coolant, it's usually $17-18/gallon, but is the correct stuff.
I run the Aisin pumps, like $80 w/gasket & bolts. HEPU pumps seem to have good reviews. I have never run one, but they are like $48 w/gasket & new bolts.
EDIT: I forgot to say something. When I buy my timing belt components I get the entire shah-bang & replace everything that touches the belt. I replace the serpentine belt too. I get all my timing belt stuff from FCP, and each time after that initial change the parts are free. Then everything is always the same age.

Tough call especially if you don't know the vehicle's history. If you have had it for a few thousand miles then that helps as you can examine it and listen to it. Water pumps will make noises and/or leak before they fail 99% of the time.
Here is the problem - some people have lost their engines due to a failed water pump - others have made it as described above. The original water pump is pretty robust - and failures are few and far between under 150k miles.
Were it me I would price out the Aisin Timing belt kit with and without the water pump and decide if it is worth the extra money and the hour or so of added labor. It may be worth knowing you will have no issues for 100k miles plus and do the timing belt once.

Recommend the Contitech belt kit while there. Are you sure you 2006 is non turbo ? Remember the non turbo engine being discontinued around 2005 ?

Yes, it is definitely non turbo. After the greatly appreciated input, I've decided to go with the water pump. FCP sells the Conti kit w/ Rein water pump, but I think I'll package up separately and get the Aisin pump. Thanks to all.

I apply my formula as follows
My labor is 25 an hour,so 4 hours for the pump costs me 100 later on if I need to do it,
It’s highly likely that pump will last to the next timing belt cycle in which case the labor is free.
Here’s one last tipping point agaisntvreplacement. ..it’s posdible once in a while, to snap off water pump bolts on this job. Be careful with those and note they have to seal the coolant path, too.
Sorry for coming in late.

On Fcpeuro this seems to be your kit for the belt https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... em#fitment I think the Fcp have a glitch in their system, sometimes they don't show the 2.4 (or base) engine after 2005
