ABS - is that normal?

Post by Clemens »

While doing a longish test drive today with my 96 trying to recreate the instrument cluster failure I had to stomp on the brakes really hard because a Bus was in my lane in a tightish corner. Even though the temps were around 50 Fahrenheit and the road was dry, the ABS came on and it seemed to take forever to stop. After that I did a few hard braking sessions and every time the ABS would go on and pulsate quite noticeable and quickly.
Is that normal? The 95 and 94 never seemed to get the ABS working that easily. But maybe they changed the frame rate for 96 along with the ABS module.
I rarely ever slam on the brakes hard because it makes me sick, so I rarely ever get the ABS going.

Edit: I resoldered the ABS module a while back, all the dash lights work as they should.

That's probably it.
Summer tyres gets hard at temperatures below 7-8C Celsius...and 50F is 10C(according to conversion table).

If you stomped the breaks with your full force at speed, than yes perfectly normal no matter what tires or road conditions the ABS should kick in. If your stopping distance is long with working ABS during panic stop, that is tires or aftermarket pads, or a combination of the two. June
