03 S60 T5 Heater problem

Post by Umirinbrah »

Of course it’s the first cold morning of the year and I go to test my heater and it is super weak. The fan is very weak when set to heat but blows just fine on ac. It also takes a long time to heat up. Any idea what this may be?

Did you recently bought the car ? Did it work properly last winter ?
What do you mean by the fan being weak ? Not much air coming off the vents? Does it blow more air when the AC is on ?

Yes i just got the car about 10 days ago and i wasn't able to test the heat because it was about 30c when i bought it lol. By weak fan i mean the air doesn't come out of the vents very hard when i set it to heat but when using the ac the air comes out considerably harder.

I'm not sure you can make a comparison between air output with heat vs air output with AC. The system probably wants to push air down to the footwell vent when the heat is on and more air out of the dash vents when the AC is on, especially when you have the "Auto" air control button selected. What happens when you push the other two buttons? They should direct more air out of either upper or lower vents per the arrows on the buttons.

As above, if the Auto button has a green light, press one of the three 'human' buttons to engage the manual mode - press the center one for example. Otherwise it may have a faulty thermistor - but not sure

The blower won’t come on until the car has made some heat in the motor, it’s very kind when it’s -40C

If you put in manual mode by turning up the fan speed switch it should blow just like the AC
