V70 B5452T Bad idle when cold, almost good when warm.

Post by Ibron »

Hello
My mother owns a V70 with only 199000km on it, its an Automatic 1999 V70 AWD 2,4 Turbo that will only rev up to around 3000rpm when cold and wont drive at full power when warm. Turbo is replaced, the brain is cloned and replaced, we cant seem to find the EGR valve to look at it and eventually clean it so that isnt tested.
Does anyone know what the problem might be and or where the egr valve may be located?
All answers help. :D

Your question leads to more questions.
What is the state of maintenance on the car? Fuel filter, air filter, coils and plugs replaced? Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) cleaned? IS the Check Engine Light (CEL) on? Have you read the OBD codes?
I do not know about the EGR valve.

In the North American market, 1998 V70 did not come with an EGR valve. The last year of EGR on the P80 platform was 1995.

Sounds like a big vacuum leak, like maybe an intercooler hose.

1 coil is replaced, piston 3 is almost completely black, air filter is replaced, good oil is used, most likely the oil filter is replaced, there is a check engine light, codes have been checked at the local volvo dealership but none were found i think.
Spark plugs spark and look good im unsure what PCV is but can ask someone about it tomorrow. It is an european V70.

What do you mean Piston 3 is black? It could mean that cylinder is too rich with excess fuel. That can be caused by leaking fuel injector. Has fuel filter been replaced? This will limit fuel flow and performance. Have the check engine light examined again. It will tell some of the story behind the problems. It means something is not right.
For the PCV, search this site for PCV clean. Also search for PCV glove test.

I think the fuel filter was replaced, i can search for pcv cleaning when i wake up. We checked with a camera that the piston was black, but the cylinder walls were nice, looked very oily, may have overheard something about a crack in the top.
Thank you for tips so far :D
