I agree about giving it a try with a new boot. The axle boots on my 1997 have split three times over the years and they're still working well... I clean them out, repack with grease and put a new GKN boot on.

That's puzzling that the P0422 is stored. Did you reset the codes after replacing the oxygen sensors?

There is a little blue relay next to the power stage... shown near the center of the photo below -- that would be worth checking to make sure it's seated correctly and working OK.
