Re: Radiator protection?
Yes replace the front springs. I replaced the radiator in my S80 from the same problem. Dealership replaced the front struts, springs and associated mounts, seats, etc. This raised the front end up better than 2" and thus no more scraping parking stops. Use aftermarket stuff and who knows... Fa...

Re: 05 XC70 Text Message Window out
DIM needs a repair. Google "Volvo DIM repair service", there are plenty of cheap'ish options on ebay. Or there's XeMoDeX that can take care of your wallet.

in the meantime a $20 bluetooth code reader that works with your phone will probably tell you what the orange triangle is alerting.

Re: 2004 V70 NA, timing belt broken
I have a spare old timing belt just for that purpose. You could set it up and turn the engine over to listen for broken stuff. It’s rare to break pistons, just bent valves.
Either way, head comes off to rework, so I think that’s next step

Re: 2004 V70 NA, timing belt broken
If you can get your hands on a bore scope you can probe the spark plug holes and look for ding marks in the tops of the pistons.

Re: '04 V70 - Oddities in the VIN
I just "decoded" the VIN on my '04 V70, FWD, Non-turbo. For an engine code, I get B5244S6 R5 2.4L. I understand this to be a turbo engine, which I have not. B5244S6 B = Bensin ( Swedish for Petrol ) 5 = Number of cylinders 24 = Approximate displacement in deciliters, may be rounded up or ...

Re: replacement engine for '04 V70 n/a
We have a guy hear in Albany that collects and parts p2s. I can stop by this week and see if he has any engines from rear ends or other totals that might work.
I’ll pm my cell to you, send me your VIN , if you want to pursue this.

Re: '01 V70 T5 transmission fix,
Still looking at a very nice '01 T5. At a dealership and history unknown. I can see from the sticker that the timing belt was replaced at 45K miles (and 11 years). This also indicates dealer service. Is there any way to detect if the Transmisson "fixes" have been applied? Mileage is still...

Re: 2004 XC90 Electrical Gremlins - Ignition Switch?
I went through something very similar recently with my ‘04 XC70. I don’t know if they’re the same. But it was the DIM (“drivers information module” - or the gauge cluster assembly). The lead-free solder mandated then became brittle and many connections on the circuit board fail through heat or vibra...
