When redoing my timing belt (but only after removing the tensioner) it seemed to me that my timing marks seem odd right now. Could I've been running with the exhaust side 1 tooth of for 7 years without noticing?
How many teeth can the cams benoff w/o causing any damage? Can't be much, I guess.

Re: gas odor with full tank
Thank you, gentlemen!
I will follow your advice. I don't top off the tank. I will fill it up and look for wet stains on the side of the tank. And, since I have enough p80s, I might as well swap the fuel cap after cleaning the neck inlet.

Dear Diary! What a great day! I finally had a reason to drive through Germany with my R. What a scary blast it is to drive a p80 at over 140 miles per hour.

Re: gas odor with full tank
cleaning the filler neck and switching fuel caps did the trick. Over 1000 miles and still no fuel odor.

Re: Fix or Scrap?
Try to get EVERYTHING off Yertrude that you can somehow store. Take the time to remove everything carefully, and save all these rare and low mileage AWD parts.

Re: 850 Sedan trunk seal NLA, other options?
You could try to use a generic self adhesive seal (used for insulating crappy windows) as a second seal. Try sticking it onto the lid right where the original seal would meet the lid. Not sure if it works, but it could work. Theoretically...

Re: 98 V70R fuel pump!
These pumps can die suddenly. But you can usually motivate them to run again by smacking the fuel tank real good from below with a baseball bat or similar while a helper tries to start the car. If this works, it should be the fuel pump's brushes being worn or the comm in need of a new cut on a lathe...
