Yes, it returns with more frequency this winter vs. prior years. This morning, it's 20 degrees outside...pretty darned chilly for these parts. I jump into my beloved V70 & fire it up. After about ten minutes of warm-up driving, the defrost on full...."CRACK"....from the front windshiel...

2000 V70 n/a. Typical mileage is 24.5.

That piece is glued to the top of the panel near the door lock button. Take a close look at the panel in that vicinity & you should see a witness of where it once resided. I've had to reglue this & other retainers on all but one of my door panels. Epoxy rules!

I had mine done by an Indie in March & decided to go "full boat" - timing & serp. belts, tensioner, idler & water pump at 87k miles. Set me back about $575 but the peace of mind is priceless!

Yep, I have the same issue with my '00 V70. Truly perplexing and I too have checked out all the possible causes & have yet to locate one.

Had a similar noise from underneath my V70. Intermittent yet annoying. Finally traced it to the front end, passenger side. The backing plate behind the brake rotor was slightly bent making contact with the rotor under certain conditions. Simple fix. Might be worth investigation.

Procrastinated due to lack of funds, recently completed (thanx to a generous tax return):

-timing belt & tensioner
-serpentine belt & tensioner
-water pump
-spring seats
-swaybar end links
