Re: rear crankshaft oil seal
I'm facing a similar issue with the front seals. Have you checked to be sure you do not have excess crankcase pressure causing the seal to blow out?

Lower front engine plate
This is a 1991 Volvo 240 with 141,000 miles with an oil leak from the front engine area. I plan to replace the three front seals and the timing belt. In addition, I plan to take the cover off the metal plate that sits behind the crank pulley and replace that gasket just in case it is contributing to...

Accessory Bushing R&R
1991 Volvo 240 141,000 miles. I am planning to change the original factory accessory bushings (alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor) at the same time that I change the timing belt. Does each accessory take the same bushings? How many total bushings are needed? Is there a certain brand...

stalls when put in gear
1991 Volvo 240 California car automatic with about 140,000 miles. Sudden new problem. This afternoon, in the rain, with a cold engine, I drove about one mile to run an errand. When I stopped at 1/4 mile, at the signal light on the way, the first indication was that it hesitated to get going from the...

Alternator Not Working
This is a 1991 Volvo 240 (245) wagon with 140,00 miles, a California car. A few days ago, I noticed while driving after dark that the "battery" symbol would light up very dimly once in awhile, then quite a bit of the time. Thinking (erroneously)that this meant the alternator might be getti...

1991 240 Diagnostic code 1-3-3
1991 Volvo 240 wagon 132,000 miles California car. Engine performs erratically at idle and at speed. Right now I am checking for possible causes. Today I am specifically asking about diagnostic code 1-3-3 (Throttle switch idle contacts misadjusted or shorted to ground) in socket 2 which has appeared...

1991 240
I want to remove gas from the tank as best I can in the easiest way possible. Can I just disconnect somewhere in the engine compartment and run that gas by tubing to my gas cans? If so, where exactly do I disconnect? What do I do then to make the gas flow?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

ERG vacuum Booster
1991 Volvo 240 California car, 130,000 miles. Exploring the ERG system. got a trouble code (4-1-3). Checked as much as I could and found nothing wrong. Got a suggestion to check the ERG Vacuum Booster (aka ERG vacuum servo, Erg vacuum motor). Specifically to remove the little round plastic top and c...

1991 240 fuel evap. system leak
I just failed the smog test because the functional test failed - everything else was OK. As I understand it, air pressure was applied to the gas filler tube and checked later. It did not hold the pressure, which suggests there is a leak in the hose between the fuel tank and the charcoal canister, or...
