I own both. The 740 has some newer features and lighter aluminum suspension pieces up front. I MUCH prefer the 240. The 240 is durable, safe, and inexpensive to maintain. I like the lines better.

These cars have a temperature compensation board and yours is bad. You can remove and put a jumper in and the temperature gage will read actual temperature. I did with mine. IPD sells this little jumper wire for $15. They used to have the instructions posted.

It probably blew out the cam plug because the flame trap is plugged. Check and replace before running engine or next time you may blow out the seals (rear main, front engine seal, etc.)
