I have a big tear in the plastic casing under my engine and it's flapping in the wind once I hit 50mph (so it probably won't last much longer). Looking on FCP Euro it looks like I can pick up a splash guard for $81. Is it an easy install?

Thanks to the suggestions of the knowledgable folks on this forum I seem to have got this fixed. I figured from the input from this group that it might be caused by one of 3 things:

1 - Turbo (Boost) Control Valve
2 - Fuel Pressure (MAP) Sensor
3 - Throttle Position Sensor/Throttle Body

Probably all true, but my car doesn't have an ETM. 2003 (maybe 2002) and later models have an updated Throttle Body. That said I still think it might be my throttle body failing.

@oragex - interesting. Certainly seems a lot easier and cheaper than a throttle body. I'm going to try replacing the turbo boost control valve first (already ordered). If that's not the issue, then I'll try this FPS, and finally I'll go the whole hog and replace the throttle body if I have to. I ...

Thanks, great info. The dealer quoted me $1300 to do the job. Saw the throttle body on FCP for $339, I figure a bit of lost skin is an absolute bargain for that.

A local independent Volvo mechanic just told me that I would need to go to a dealer to have the throttle body replaced because they will also need to reflash the software. This doesn't seem to make sense to me. Is it really a dealer-only job to replace something as basic as a throttle body?
