95 855 n/a 5speed with 199.6K miles
On cold starts i get a crazy rpm dance where tachometer gauge would dance around 1000 rpms going up to about 1300 and down to about 700 for up to two minutes.
This happens on the colder mornings. The car is fine after a short drive or when it's started warm.
Regular things cleaned: AIC, throttle body, MAF, injectors. New distributor rotor, distributor cap, wires. Good compression. I'm pretty sure the vacuum is OK. PCV was serviced recently. So new lines, breather box, cleaned vent holes in the block, new intake manifold gasket. 10W30 MObil 1 in it right now. Awaiting Full Syn 5W30 in about a month.
I'm sure this happened to some of you, guys. How did you fix this?
PS: i have 2000 v70xc awd as well and on cold start the rpms go up above 1000 rpms, then as the car warms up slowly creep down to normal idle of about 850 rpms. NOthing like this on my 855 from 95 where it goes up and down for a few minutes.
cold start rpm fluctuate wildly

Your cars are confused! The 2000's ETM should be the one doing that, not the '95!
But seriously, it sounds like a MAF issue to me. Have you tried disconnecting the MAF connector entirely and running it?
