2003 V70 2.4t, 130k, low profile wheels (might matter here)
Ok, pretty sure since the mech (who wants 1100-ish to do repair) says it needs it and I'm getting the uphill vibration under acceleration, as well as a REALLY gnarly grinding on hard left turns (*pressure on right axle* duh) that I'm about to change my passenger side drive axle.
A few questions before I work myself into a corner....
1) Where to buy the parts? Raxle has been mentioned in site here a lot but they don't have my parts, and don't know when they will, I've seen FCP Groton mentioned with varying degrees of enthusiasm, but seen that if I use them I should get the EMPI instead of the lower cost option, so any other thoughts, IPD, etc etc?
2) Is there a better or different walkthrough than this one - https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... php?t=5896
and how relevant is this one - http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_how ... ement.html
I like to be able to see it in my head start to finish, and so far I haven't got my head totally around it yet.
3) Anyone who has done this in the L.A./Sylmar area want to come over and drink beer/eat pizza and watch/heckle me and maybe stop me from doing something really stupid...? I'm buying...duh...

Ok, did I somehow offend a board etiquette? Lots of people have looked in but not one response? I thought it was a solid question....

I have had good luck with ordering parts from FCP. Not sure about the lower cost option. It's common for these model years to have drixe axle issues so it maybe worth the extra money. The links you have look solid and mostly easy to follow. You can also take a look in the repair database above. There is a link for your model range towards the end of the forum. Good Luck.

Thanx for the reply, I've decided to order the EMPI version from FCP and hope for the best, can't be worse than continuing to drive on what will shortly be a dangerous piece I'm guessing...
I don't really understand the last thing you said about link in end of forum, end of which forum did you mean?
Thanx for the reply!

There is a link above, Repair Database. There is a post for axle replacement almost all the way down towards the bottom of the postings for your model range.

This link should get you there.... https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/catego ... ls-struts/ Good Luck
While you are at it. Check the Wheel bearing. I would replace the Wheel Bearing. It will go bad if it isnt already(hub assy. $90-130) The Vibration is from the Axle, the grinding generally comes from the hub.

Thanx for the link, I think I found the one you meant, and thanx also for heads up on wheel bearing, that could very well be true, it felt more like that than a vibration thing, and I do know what bearing grind feels like, tho not in this car.....

I'm back here for other things, I wanted to note that I DID do that repair, and it was physically hard but do-able, and the directions are mostly right, tho the amount of force needed in my case was really really intense and really needed 2 people...but I saved literally something like $1100 against what I was quoted to have someone else do it....
