... be my second step if the minor drops do not stop after I re torque these 7 bolts?
Timing belt was done Oct 2010. What all I must remove to access these bolts? Would someone point me to the pertinent MVS posts.
Weekend project. TIA.

Just in case that the coolant is escaping from a bad seal.If it is escaping from the little shaft, you must replace it soon.xHeart wrote:... be my second step if the minor drops do not stop after I re torque 7 bolts?
I assume that you have OEM or Hepu water pump installed. They are the ONLY one you would want to have in there.

First know where it leaks from. The bolts at 1 o'clock and 2:30 can leak by threads. The bolts can have sealnt applied and fix that without removal of belt.

The location is designed for braille readers. Would a socket set with 1/4 and 3/8 driver sufficient, and what sealant?jimmy57 wrote:First know where it leaks from. The bolts at 1 o'clock and 2:30 can leak by threads. The bolts can have sealnt applied and fix that without removal of belt.
Few photos... Yes. it is HEPU.

I thought all along we were discussing the 01 XC70. The hydraulic tensioner on the 97 makes this a bit different. If the leak is traced to the bolts then the belt has to come off.
Teflon pipe joint compound/thread sealant would be fine. Loc-Tite makes a teflon bolt sealant but for two bolts it would be more expensive and harder to locate than the ACE/Home Depot/Lowe's/Menard's available plumber's product.

'97 850 N/A - I took the TB cover off the other day, it is difficult to size up looking from the above. Would removing the passenger side wheel help?jimmy57 wrote:The hydraulic tensioner on the 97 makes this a bit different. If the leak is traced to the bolts then the belt has to come off.

Remove the passenger side wheel and bend a plastic shield to reveal crankshaft and all other timing components.xHeart wrote:...it is difficult to size up looking from the above. Would removing the passenger side wheel help?

Above is quoted from a topic discussing timing belt. Ozark Lee's write up is an excellent starting reference for me to take on the leaking issue near the water pump. My scope of work is limited to water pump, but it looks I will have to do everything before I take the pump off. The markings, alignment, minus putting new parts since the TB job was done by Volvo service 2 years ago.Ozark Lee wrote:There are a couple of versions of the crankshaft marks. Some have two marks and others have one mark.
There are some pictures in this thread.

If so, then, would it make sense to order the water pump kit before taking it all apart?

The bolts appear dry. However, pressing against the cup with finger draws out antifreeze from its edges. It is hot.
A clearer view of drop forming. Would the seal become so weak that the hot antifreeze would start to gushing out at some point?
Where do I go from here? The Aisin kit at IPD if $78.

With that minor drops and with last replacement 2 years ago...i would let it there for next timing belt replacement and i would keep en eye to coolant level. In fact...you don't need to keep en eye to coolant level because you have low coolant light.
Seriously...if the pump is not making noise and don't have a play in the shaft, with that minor leak...i would leave it in there for next timing belt replacement IF leaking is not getting worse.
