2006 XC-70 with Bridgestone Ensignium SE 200 size 215 65 R16 tires need replacement & I’m not really happy with handling.

Considering going wider to 225 65 R16 Goodyear Eagle LS2 or Michelin MXV4.
Will 225 fit without hitting?
(I know this tire will be a little taller and actual speed may be higher than speedo, but I’m hoping the increased load rating will reduce the sloppy handling and overloaded catch-up feeling in corners.)
I don’t want the “stickiest” tire available, although that would be nice, because I have to compromise with an “all season” tire (not enough $$$). Any thoughts?

Thanks!

If you want to go w/ 225, you have to go lower to 60 to compensate for the extra width. I learned that from a tire guy at PepBoys. So go w/ 225x60x16. Your speedo will register about 5 more miles than the actual speed. So if speedo is showing 65mph, you're actually only going @60. Thats a neat trick to do on youngsters' cars to slow them down a bit.

I currently run 225/60/17 and they fit no problem. You will be able to fit 225/66/16 on there with no issues other than speedo being slightly off. In fact the tires you are talking about are 0.4% SMALLER than the one's I am currently using.
