850 smoke screan (Do we need Turbo Seals)

My son has a 1996 850 T5 that blows a ton of smoke for a very short time when you lift after hard acceleration. The car just had a new head gasket and a leak tested head 600 miles ago so I am hoping it is not valve guides.

Is there any change that the turbo needs news seals and is causing the smoke?

Any other ideas?

I was told that if it comes under hard acceleration it is most likely the turbo seals. My original 850 had bad valve guide seals and would only smoke really bad at cold start-up and after sitting for a while. I did read an article that stated if the oil trap was clogged it could cause smoking and oil sitting under your spark plug cover.

Go the turbo changed and the smoke is gone. Yay

But unfortunately the oil return line is leaking bad. Anyone have tips for fixing repairing the leak?

It's super easy to access on a FWD. Two Torx bolts, take off the old gasket, put the new one on, and done.

Oh, and let the oil leak out into a pan before you try to get under there.

Change the big O ring at the bottom of the oil return pipe while you are at it.
