Use OEM hoses, O-rings and clamps
I bought lines from FCP Groton last year, BIG mistake, they did not fit!

If you have the budget, then go with Volvo OEM.
Gather the PNs for O-rings, Hoses etc. and try Waltrip Volvo in Nashville TN.
Example: PN 3507931 is $79, not a bad price at all.
Same price for 9180542.
http://www.trademotion.com/parts/index. ... eid=216970
Simple drain/refill: 3.3 qts.
Replacing lines: add another 0.7 qts.
So you will need approx. 4qts for this job, use Mobil1 ATF.

I just checked with Don and he confirmed that the orings are included. Thanks for the reminder that I can check prices at Waltrip using their online site.... I forgot about that!

The hose has the orings and your cost is 79.55 plus 10.00 freight

Don--
Could you verify that on the hose below that the o-rings at both ends are included in the part please? If they aren't included, could you quote me on the o-rings too please (968757, 6842413, 6842414). Thank you.
Best regards--J

Confuse_al is right. These are the PNs for 1998 (and earlier models).confused_al wrote:I believe the PN is 9180542 (up), 3507931 (low)....
PN 968757 is trans sidejreed wrote:...O-rings (968757, 6842413, 6842414)...
PN 6842413, 6842414 are for radiator side.
------------
I have a slow leak from these 2 hoses that confused_al mentioned earlier.
Just a few drops on the driveway here and there.
When the weather gets warmer, I will replace these lines:
1. Volvo sells ecah for $85 + shipping or $170 for both hoses.
2. I am thinking rebuilding them with either:
- Using local hydraulic shop (people servicing farm equipment)
- Using standard trans hose and clamp (cut of the crimping thingy, keep the barb fitting, slide new hose in and clamp it as in the photo I posted above from a Jeep).
The pressure in these ATF cooler hoses is not much, maybe around 5-10 psi and that is all.
So a standard hose and clamp should work, and this should not cost more than $10 for the hose/clamps.
Stay tuned.
FYI: my 2007 Honda Odyssey ATF cooler hoses use standard hoses and clamp, no fancy junk like Volvo.

Can someone do me a favor if you have an old leaky trans cooler hose lying around?
I need to know the I.D. of the rubber portion of this hose.
My guess is either I.D. = 3/8" or 5/16".

If they are the same size as the oil cooler lines they are metric. I tried to buy some hose at Tompkins Industries and they didn't even come close with the standard SAE sizes.

The ATF fluid level is dropping faster. I am replacing these hoses, ordered both, inlet and outlet from Waltrip. These include o-rings and retainer clamp.cn90 wrote:If you have the budget, then go with Volvo OEM.

Found instruction for the UPPER/INLET, would common sense take me through replacing the LOWER/OUTLET?
It is MOBIL ATF 3309 not MOBIL 1 ATF, right?

For your 97, Mobil 1 ATF or standard dex, i.e. NOT the 3309.

Some 18 months ago the infamous three-step Simple D&F, I used MOBIL 3309 and not TOYOTA IV.erikv11 wrote:For your 97, Mobil 1 ATF or standard dex, i.e. NOT the 3309.
It is shifting very well, any thoughts?

Dexron-III is good enough for your 1997 model. I use Quaker State Dexron-III at $3.40/qt.
The 2 trans cooler hoses, they are $90/each at Volvo dealer.
But you can rebuild them for $10, I just did that a few weeks ago.
Detail below (basically trans cooler hose from local autoparts store and Oetiker clamps).
So instead of spending $200 at the dealer, I spent $10 rebuilding the hoses!
