THANK YOU!
I also had the error code - misfire on cylinder 4. Rough idle, no power, it smoothed out around 3K RPM, but I was getting half the MPG I normally did.
This page probably saved me hundreds in diags and shop fees.
I found the part locally at an Advance Auto Store, and that, with a new plug and the Torx bits I needed came to $95. A half hour later, my XC70 with over 150K miles was purring like a baby, and actually runs better than since I've owned it.

I've got an 04 xc70, I had a dead mis fire one night when i started to leave from work (11 pm so NO way home other than myself.) I drove it to a fuel station and pulled my tools out to begin to diag it. no spark on 4th cyl. moved the coil to the number one cyl to confirm the dead pack then unplugged the injector, packed my tools (i didn't even bother putting the covers back on till the next day) and drove it home. $53 for an aftermarket coil (only one in stock) and it drives fine. there are about two or three iirc oem coils still on the engine.

I know this is an old thread but it is AWESOME! I just bought a 2004 Volvo xc70 with 200K miles for my daughter and it ran really rough from 0-30 mps, with really poor acceleration. I suspected it was an ignition coil, plugs at the very least.
I decided to swap out the coils and plugs - the first time ever in my life doing such a thing - this vehicle notwithstanding, and it worked like a charm! Can't even hear the engine running now, acceleration is spot on. This tutorial was excellent and I'm really thankful I found this forum. Thank you!

Let's do this carefully.
The front of the engine is on the right hand side of the car, and cylinder number one starts there, number five is on the other end of the engine towards the left side.
Standing looking at the engine from the front, number one cylinder is to the observers left.

I want to add a small tip (already mentioned above).
Some may want to squeeze the tab bc it is quicker, don't, bc you can break the tab.
Just find a small screwdriver and very very very gently lift the tab up as show.
Remember these cars are some ~ 20 years old, plastic breaks all the time lol...
PS: Worst-case scenario you break the tab, it will likely hold by friction (the orange seal).
Or you can design some zip tie etc.
Or you can replace the connector itself for $7.00 (sold by FCPEuro)...
