Hi,
I have a 2000 s80 T6 with 175000miles.
Ever since I replaced the brake pads and rotors all around my brakes will pretty much always squeal when turning either direction at low speed, more when turning left. Also the noise increases the further the tire is turned.
The noise it makes; it's pretty high pitched, sounds like metal on metal (but no visual sign of this), and is in rhythm with the tire revolving. The sound will lope, if that makes sense, like a high pitched whaaaaaaa with increasing then decreasing volume ,then a pause as the tire turns, then the whaaaaaa again.
I think wearever was the rotor brand, just like the oem ones but not oem. The pads were some kind of expensive ceramics, also from advance auto I think. Also replaced the brake hoses to calipers and bleed the system. I even returned all the parts and did the job a second time with much more lube. Yeah.
Brakes work great and rotor wear is normal after 5,000 miles. I have no idea why they make noise. I have never done a brake job that did this to me.
Does anyone have experience with this problem or have any advice as where to look, what to do?
Thank you much for any help,
Benton

Hi, I very recently had this exact same thing happen to my s60. I took it all apart and couldn't find anything, I had also just had the wheel bearing done as well as new discs and pads (mine weren't OEM)
All I could think of was getting a good lot of brake cleaner on both sides of the Disc and I also bent the mud guard away from the disc to make sure there was no contact while turning. After this it seemed to disappear, not sure if it was a cure or it cured itself.
If you haven't already I would just check for those simple things. Also if you haven't already check the condition of your wheel bearings for excess play.
Keep us posted

Does the noise go away when you apply the brakes?

Hi,
Thank you much for the replys. Yeah, I should have mentioned, I looked at was the guard for the rotor. Thanks for the suggestion though because I will look there again to be certain there is nothing funny happening.
The noise remains if I apply the brakes.
Thank you,
Benton

My suggestion is to try a new set of pads. Be sure all surfaces of the brake system contact surfaces are rust free and use a quality lube/anti-squeak not the synthetic blue clear stuff. The Pads could be not riding/fitting on the rotors properly also.
