1999 C70 Engine Compatibilty

Well, my beloved 1999 C70 threw the timing belt and bent every valve in the head. It's a 2.4L Vin 53 B5234T3. I'm shopping for a used engine but it's not clear which engines besides OEM are compatible . Does anyone know with certainty which engines will fit without major issues?

Sucks, was it HT? How many miles between belts?

Huh? Yes a OEM motor is what you need. That motor may be found on V70 T5, S70 T5, and the C70. it would be an easy swap to make sure it has the same kind of cams. I would likely swap the head but that's me.

I bought the car used with a new belt at 99,000 miles. Apparently, the tensioner was not replaced, because it disintegrated at 135,000 miles.

If you have any interest in learning the job of head replacement this is the place to do it. There's a brilliant write-up here that you can download in PDF format.

Clearwater heads have been used by many Mathews members with great results and would set you back around $450. The rest of expense would be a gasket set and your time. With a basic set of tools and a breaker bar and torque wrench you could just about get this done.
